No, many video projectors are very good, there is no difference from viewing
with a monitor but you need a very dark room of course. My PT-AE4000 has
over 500:1 tested contrast ratio, similar to some old EIZOs.
With the video projector, you need to select the right dispaly mode and many
require some adjustment. For input level range you has to choose the
expanded mode (like my HDTV) since TV mode is set to dispaly 16-235 you need
to use 0-255 for computer images. Many people has problem to understand it
and complain on poor video quality of their videocam as many of them are now
viewing on monitor instead of TV. Proper video player setting can solve the
problem.
To me the most important points for a projector are contrast ratio and
brightness, you also need some adjustment flexibility. My projector can auto
set to match your input image range. Just display a grey bar chart and it
will adjust to display the darkest and brightest level, after some gamma
adjustment you got a beautiful projector for your images.

I resort to tablets when I'm sick, exclusively.
Video projectors are usually extremely bad for photography - I know
only a few that will be up to the task.
My tip: Print the photos and enjoy people's breath ;-)
