As a rule, Tobermory or any other village or town in western Scotland or the
islands is seen under gray skies and through anything from a light drizzle to a
blinking downpour. I think the bright colors are a means of combatting
depression. But when the sun comes out, they really shine. Portree, on Skye,
has similar buildings and colors along its waterfront.
