Back a few years, a neighbour (owner-builder) disappeared for a few weeks which
we noticed by stopped construction. It turns out he was doing something very
similar to the above (on floor joists above a deep basement/garage) and
momentarily misjudged a single footing, stepping into nothing. He fortunately
fell astride a joist, but unfortunately his testicles broke his fall. He said
the hardest part (pun intended) was instruction from his doctor to not get a
certain part hard while the many stitches took. This was not always possible
and the congruent agony had him frequently send his wife from the hospital
room. But apparently the eventual home-coming was good.
