Whatever might be said about the portability of the mirrorless cameras, not
to mention IQ, I think a certain type of woman locks on when a big camera
is pointed at her.
I went to the parade in Honolulu's Chinatown the weekend before last to
celebrate the Chinese new year. Surprised and delighted as I was with the
whole spectacle, the quotient of tiara'd ladies was quite high as Miss
Chinatown, Miss Hawaii Chinese and runners-up, the Narcissus Queen and
runners-up, Miss Hawaii, and Mrs. Hawaii passed by (I think the contests
favored talent as the runners-up looked like they might be more fun at a
party, but I'm getting off-track), I was extremely surprised that I seemed
to get more eye contact than I expected. Here are some examples:
Miss Chinatown:

First princess:

Second princess:

Third princess:

Fourth princess:

Miss Hawaii -- seems to notice something:

Miss Hawaii -- locked on:

And how about the 2014 Narcissus Queen?

Or her runners up?

And it looks like here I may have gotten 2012 at least, if not also 2013:

I could not quite reel in Mrs. Hawaii (which I will assume is the exception
that proves the rule -- she's probably myopic or a Nikon shooter):

My kit was the Canon 5D with Tamron SP 24-135, big enough in itself, but I
was also using a battery grip, so it is a whopper. If I carry any more
than one lens, I can't get it into my Domky "journalist's" bag without
removing all lenses from the camera first..
I am willing to attribute a few of these to brilliant timing or the
appearance, rather than the reality, of eye contact, but I now believe that
if you want a lady who is proud of how she looks to pick you out of a
crowd, use a very big camera.
Joel (err, this is all in fun, OK?) W.
