I don't understand this at all. Too many words describing stuff I can't see,
awful illustrations.
In the first night shot, the PRIME version has blown out highlight detail that
the others haven't. Operator error, I'm
sure, but how am I supposed to tell anything?
On the Bistro, there's not much NR, but all sorts of tonal value changes. For a
proper comparison, only the variable
being demonstrated should be changed. Like loudness in music, brightness in
images can have a big effect on apparent
'improvement'. <http://www.moosemystic.net/Gallery/Others/Misc/1-JPEG.htm>
It's easy enough on this one to just make the noise go away. Working with the
original, Raw file would be flawless.
The cathedral image is even more mysterious. Both the dark JPEG and the ACR can
be made into quite nice, rather low
noise images. <http://www.moosemystic.net/Gallery/Others/Misc/2-JPEG.htm>
Before concluding that image detail has been lost, look closely. A sense of
sharpness, from the grain edges, is gone,
but I don't think any actual image detail has been lost. I'm not advocating
such NR (down AG!), only showing how poor
the NR examples are in this review supposedly about NR.
The Optics Pro 9 version is quite awful, with wildly changed tonalities,
including loss of some tonal detail, yet with
very ugly noise. What's the point?
On the basis of what's shown in this review, I wouldn't touch Optics Pro 9 with
a ten foot pole. I'm sure, however that
it isn't as bad as shown. Whatever this guy's other skills, he's incompetent in
the digital darkroom.
