Back in high school I couldn't help but notice the number of ways that
people self-destructed despite all of the warnings around them. These included
smoking, alcohol, and drugs, though the list sometimes seemed endless. You
would think it would decline as people matured, but many became "maturity
challenged" and just found new ways to destroy themselves and very often others
around them. Keeping that "socially preferred behaviour" at a comfortable
distance can limit you socially but at least you don't end up becoming
dependent on prescription drugs.
