I bought a Dell Inspiron 14R before traveling to share with the Mrs. So
far the only thing shared is a viewing of "Life of Pi."
I've got all my PSCC stuff on it and have been editing as I go what little
I've shot.
I purposefully bought a Win 8 machine, as I'd set up my daughter's Lenovo
with Win 8 and enjoyed the touch features. I don't know why all the
hipsters p*ss on Win 8. To me it's got all the goodies of an iPad but I
can do workie-work on it. I haven't found many mouse moves I can't do with
touch, though I often forget to do them.
Anyway, this machine just squeezes into my "journalist" camera bag. Refurb
came in at $500 at Newegg. (Tiny scratch is possible evidence that the
machine is not actually untouched by human hands, and possibly I caused the
scratch.) I couldn't get comparable goodies on a tablet for less than
about twice the price, and I am still not certain that some of the Windows
features I need work on any tablet. Someone will doubtless do me the favor
of explaining why I'm an idiot, but as a used car salesman acquaintance
once explained to me, if the customer thinks he got a good deal, he got a
good deal, which is kind of where things sit with me. 6 GB ram, 750 GB
drive, i5. Not deluxe but not shabby.
Windows Live Mail is sort of stupid as hyperlinks aren't hyper. My only
complaint. Gmail works better in a browser anyway.
