We start on I-81 since we're only about 8 miles away from it at home.
But we get off at Roanoke, Virginia to go see our daughter in High
Point, North Carolina, then drop down to I-95 in one of two different
ways. I-81 is better than I-95 but is also an old road which is only 4
lanes most of its distance. Truck traffic can be very heavy at times.
You say I-95 in Georgia is better than the Carolinas. You've obviously
never driven it between Christmas and New Years on a weekend. Between
I-26 which goes to Charleston (and including part of I-26) and the
Florida border (which takes in all of I-95 in Georgia) you may think you
have just driven onto a parking lot. At certain parts of the year I
would stay on US 301 for as long as it generally goes in the direction
you're heading. :-)
