Rolex is now about ostentation as with so many classic brands. Why not just buy the ostentation without the over-engineered gubbins. My wife has a 1917 Rolex ladies watch which does not even have 'Rolex' on the enamel faceplate. It's set in a locally made pink gold case and strap. That's really cool - real style doesn't shout. You have to know.
