I watched a piece on CNN this afternoon about this image. They had a
California shark expert in for an interview. He was asked if he thought
this was a PhotoShopped image and he said no. He identified the shark
as a 10-12 foot juvenile Great White. He said Manhattan Beach has
recently become prime territory for juvenile Great Whites. For reasons
unknown pregnant females have begun hanging out and giving birth in the
deeper water off Manhattan Beach. The juveniles then gravitate to
shallower water in search of food which is mostly fish.
He said the kids were likely not in any danger. People are generally
unaware of it but, if you take aerial photos of the water off Manhattan
Beach you will frequently find juvenile Great Whites mixed in with the
bathers. The people are unaware and usually not in any danger. The
sharks are after fish and other seafood. People are generally not on
the diet.
