I occasionally use one, though for field work I use a belt so that things
don't flop around when I'm climbing.
For the sling bag, I use a small one that has a detachable strap plus belt
loops. When I use the strap, I sling it over the opposite shoulder to keep the
bag close so it doesn't flop around. I also have one of those Tamrac chest
harnesses that lets me comfortably keep the sling bag or a holster bag where
it's more convenient.
