Cats? No. They've done a cost/benefit analysis and you came out on top -
temporarily.
We had a cat come with our present house.
A ginger Tom in a rough condition.
Fed him, cleaned him up and he let us stay.
But he was bad to the bone, sociopathic, even for a cat.
Walked past me in the garden one day with a dead parrot in his jaws.
I yelled at him and he gave me a look which despite the mouthful was pure 'WTF?'
He allowed me to apologise later.
