@Tina... Thanks for showing us your excellent photo of the "chestnut
peelers". The availability of Roasted Chestnuts from the street
vendors was a wonderful adjunct to my own experiences on many visits to
Paris while my wife and I lived in a two room flat below Karl and
Ursula Rummpel in Ursula's parents' home in the small german village of
Hoppstadten am Nahe during my tour of duty at the 98th General Hospital
in 1963-1966. Albert, the local town butcher, and his family, provided
wonderful experiences for my son in his early years. There was also a
very interesting ruin of a big, old castle on a small hill a few miles
to the east - perhaps near Weiersbach, but I am not sure of the exact
location. This castle was very old, possibly 11th - 14th century. Only
partial walls remained standing, and it was quite overgrown. In our
Bleiderdingen farm house flat, We never lost a bridge game when I
served Hot Buttered Rums. :)

PESO:
This past Sunday there was a chestnut festival at the Catholic Church
in
our little village. We enjoyed roasted chestnuts, chestnut crepes with
cheese and chocolate fillings, fried pasta (think Beignets with salt
instead of sugar) and lots and lots of local wine. I took hundreds of
photos but like this one of the guys peeling chestnuts because the
priest
(wearing sandals) looks exactly like our retired prebyter at our church
in
South Carolina. Small world!

C&C greatly appreciated.
