The euro conveyances are pretty much all using synthetic oils and the
manufacturers are recommending up to 15,000 miles between oil changes.
I cut that in half. The X5 uses a quart about every 1500 miles or so,
but it looks like it's because of a pre-firing cylindar wash. The
Mazda RX-7 did the same thing, which is why it had two cats. If it's
due to pre-firing, then oil consumption is a function of how many
times you turn on the engine, rather than the run-time of the engine.
