I won't comment on the silly idea of secession (again) except to say that I have a lot of family and friends in both places and don't know of anyone who wants to sedede. But I do think you need to get out and about more if you think you are supporting Texas and Florida with your taxes. The rank order of state GDPs for the top four states is: California, Texas, New York and Florida. Household income in Texas is slightly less than Washington but Texas also has a lower cost of living. The poverty rate in Texas is a bit higher than Washington but you don't have really, really poor folks streaming over the border. The poverty rate in Florida is actually a bit less than Washington. Texas also brings lots of money into the country. It exports more than California and New York combined. You don't have to like 'em but they're hardly dragging you down. I'd say it's not at all certain which way the federal tax money flows.
