I recently acquired a complete set of original OM 7,14 and 25mm auto

Here i need your advice:
Wheras the 14 and 25 mm types have a spring loaded lever mechanism, the
7mm auto extension tube I received has no springs which retract the
levers again, when displaced.
Is this a defect or a feature ?
As Bill says, it's the way they are made.
To make a tube that short is a slick piece of engineering, and
apparently didn't leave room for return springs. It makes no difference
at all in use, in my experience with the two (or three?) I have.
