Cannabis, perhaps, Andrew? I understand that it's a very effective painkiller.
And is the pain anything to do with your weight, or with your posture at work.
I went to a chiropracter for a couple of years and learned quite a bit about
problems caused by posture. Although she was very attractive, I stopped going
as I didn't think I could learn more, but it was very interesting.
And I have managed to lose 6–7kg through the Fast Diet (5:2) with very little
discomfort. I did this for a few reasons: cholesterol (and I refuse to take
statins), blood pressure (although I am on medication for that) and
uncomfortable knees. I reckoned a few kg off my weight and my joints would
last me a little longer.
Good luck with the pain-relief, however you achieve it.
