We had one installed several years ago - the original plans and drawings
showed it significantly larger than it is. Some consulting firm came in
and convinced the city that they could make it half as big and save a
huge amount of money which apparently could go to other pet projects.
Except that it ended up too small for trucks and buses to get through
comfortably - they are always riding up over the curb.
Then they installed another one at an intersection just north of our
neighborhood... and then got all giddy and replaced two cloverleafs on
an overpass with a matching pair of roundabouts. And now they're
working on replacing the busiest 5-point intersection in town with a big
roundabout...
Even after all these years, people still have no freakin' clue how to
drive one. They either just sit there and wait for it to completely
clear before crawling into the circle, or they get in the circle and
then stop at every single entry point and wait for the traffic. I've
even seen people barreling in at 40mph and not even stop, and then flip
you off when you lean on the horn to avoid getting t-boned by a moron.
Nobody seems to comprehend, "Get into the damned cirlce, and then KEEP
ON MOVING UNTIL YOUR EXIT, YOU IDIOT!!!"
