Large and and complex roundabouts in the US? You must be insane. I'm sure
there are some somewhere, but the grass alongside would be littered with
crashed vehicles. Aside from me and a couple of other guys, nobody in the us
can negotiate even the smallest. People stop where they shouldn't, go where
they shouldn't, hell where I live folks have trouble with four way stops.

But that is my entire point. It's really hard to adjust and should be linked
to the orientation of the vehicle. If you are trying to shift gear (in a
roundabout) and you want to indicate your intention to exit the roundabout,
it's bloody tricky if the shift and the indicator switch are on the same
side. If they are opposite, it's simple to flick the switch with the hand
that's on the wheel. But at present, in the UK, it seems to be positioned at
random, depending on the make and origin of the car. If they were opposed to
the gear shift, it would be far easier to readjust as you are 'rehanding'
anyway.
Do you not have large and complex roundabouts in the US? They aren't popular
in Australia but in the Uk and France, they are a plague. It was in France
that I saw my first triple roundabout!
Your argument, Sir, is about as valid as insisting that all cars should be
left hand drive, even in countries that drive on the left, so that you
personally don't get confused when entering the vehicle!
