Ah, "moon country", as in
http://ccgi.piers.plus.com/ball/aircrew_map_of_uk.pdf (which, despite the
piers bit in the URL, is nothing to do with me!)
For the pano I was positioned immediately south of "F-shaped wood" in the
aircrew map - that is, not on the Dornoch Firth (which is just visible on
the RH side of the pano), but on the hill above the town of Cromarty
(visible on the bottom edge) across the Cromarty Firth from Invergordon
(visible in the middle of the pano in the distance with rigs tied up
alongside). In fact, the pano is looking at the SW approach to Tain Range
(which is just behind the hill on the RH edge), so I assume you would almost
certainly have transited from left to right on your Tornado conversion
course. But of course it looks very different from ground level, at 90
degrees to your course.
Thanks for looking - and let me know about your ETA, as we should arrange a
Caled-OM-ian meet for when Joan Whitmire is over. I don't know if she will
bring her husband (what's his name?) - I suspect he thinks she _will_ but I
reckon he is easily fooled.
;-)

Thanks, Piers, I liked that broad view, and I admire your composition and
exposure.
But I can't make out the exact position: are you on the south bank of
Dornoch Firth, or are you closer to Inverness?
It reminds me of when I went back to Lossiemouth for my last conversion to
the Tornado, in 1997. Seeing the mountains again from across the Moray
Firth made me think of old friends. I love the scenery, and I am looking
forward to our excursion north to "Moon Country" in September.
