Indeed, but there is hope. I recently read where it was serendipitously
found that a single dose of Ketamine (short-acting anaesthetic) can
completely eliminate depression for 1-2 weeks. Ketamine works on a
completely different neurotransmitter receptor than typical
anti-depressants, so it may open up a whole new class of anti-depressant
drugs; perhaps ones that actually work.
