Hi,
This problem "crops up" in lots of granite rock areas. it is only in the
last few years that it seems to have become a "problem".
New builds in these areas have to have floors that are sealed to stop any Radon
seepage. I believe the fix for older properties entails digging a sump below
floor level with a pump / ventilation to stop any build up of gas of gas, along
with sealing gaps.
Get the house tested for Radon levels and unless levels are high do not worry!

Subject: [OM] OT Friday question - Radon gas
we have been looking to buy a cottage in North Wales as a holiday home
and later retirement and after 4 years we have found a cottage we both
like, but now the searches have come through we discover that its in a
high radon area, Has anyone on the list looked into this, is it really
such an issue and if you have looked into it what remedial measures if
any did you take.
