I have revolutionized my bicycling by putting the widest cyclocross tires I
can on one of my old steel-frame bikes. Tricked out in this way I can ride
to my heart's content on gravel roads, of which there are kajillions in
this part of the USA. I generally don't like to motorcycle on these roads
and only drive on them when I really need to. But they are great to bike
on with the proper tires and excellent for conditioning. It affords I
think the best scenery as well. Here's one from a 25-mile ride last
Saturday:

It's a whole new experience in cycling for me.
