Tina, sorry about the delay in response.
I would scan this with the exposure dialed back a bit. You need to
really, really, really protect the highlights. The Nikon scanner is
blooming this one a bit. I would also look at trying to do this with
your "camera scanner", again, with serious highlight
protection/recovery.
The slide might look like it has completely blown highlights, but I
think there is still just enough information buried in them to be
recoverable.
