I live about 20 minutes from a piece of American motorsports history -
old "Smokin' US 30 Dragstrip".
One of the region's hottest tracks, and actually known nationally from
the 50's through 1984, it now lies abandoned and overgrown as it has
been for the past 30 years. It's been for sale, but nobody wants the
land, probably because of the expense of removing all of the asphalt and
concrete.

I have some shots on film from about 8 years ago where the starting-line
shield painting is much clearer - I will have to find those.
I also visualized an awesome photo as I was standing there - since the
track starts at the East end and races West, I need to go back right at
sunset and try to catch the sun setting over the finish line. If
conditions are right, it could be spectacular. We'll see. It's private
property, but I've never seen anyone around, and there are no gates at
the driveway. I would have tried today but I was actually on my way to
a meeting and would have been late.
There are a couple more in "automobiles"
Enoy. C&C welcomed.
