I'm sure the 12-50 would do a good job of slide copying in macro mode.
The problem is that it's not usable on the bellows for that purpose. I
believe that the focal length of the lens in macro mode is 43mm. Even
at 50mm (eg the Zuiko 50/3.5) the minimum magnification is about 0.68X
since, at that magnification, the bellows is completely collapsed on
itself. A 43mm lens would just exacerbate that problem. Whether 43 or
50mm you can't get the camera close enough to the lens (when mounted on
the lens board) to get 0.5X. But, of course, even if you solve that
problem there's no easy way I know of to mount a m4/3 lens on an OM lens
mount. The other option, to discard the bellows bits and just use the
focusing stage got dicarded as well. That seems to work with Pens but
the E-M5 (and OM bodies too) sit too high on the focusing stage to
center the lens on the slide copier. There's also the (solvable)
problem of a non-centered tripod mount on the E-M5. If there's some
easy way to do it I don't know what it is.
