I was amazed at the cost of Chuck's previous "senior" plan. I pay a similar
amount to Chris for a rolling 30-day contract, OK it's £30, but with 600
minutes/500 texts (only 500!) and unlimited data, but also 3000 minutes to
three chosen international numbers. No included phone, same as Chris, but I
do have the facility to use my phone as a Wifi access point for the
notebook.
I thought the US was a competitive market with prices to reflect that?

That was pretty pricey, Chuck.
I'm paying £15 (around $23) per month for unlimited data and text and 250
minutes. My wife's monthly payment is £12 for 1,200 minutes, unlimited
texts and 1Gb of data (which she will not use). These are monthly
"contracts" for unlocked iPhones -- i.e. I bought the phones separately.
The data speed on the Virgin network (a combination of 2 other providers'
networks) is high enough to use as "mobile broadband".
