I've never been to New Zealand but that's exactly what I expected would
be your reply. If you live in New York City (as I did during the summer
of 1974) you see orthodox Jews all the time. But I live in upstate New
York. If I drove about 8 miles over to Binghamton University (my Alma
mater of many years ago) where there is a fairly large contingent of
Jewish students from New York City I would very probably come across
some orthodox Jews walking around the campus. But it would be slightly
unusual to see them in other local settings except, perhaps, for stores
close to the university. Were it not for the university and the large
contingent of students from the City I'd likely not see any at all.
