If you're worried about theft you could consider digital watermarking (not
the obvious visible watermark), won't stop anybody stealing the image but
allows you to verify that it was your image that was stolen if you see
something like it elsewhere. I understand that the digital watermark will
be preserved over edits too, e.g. in the case where part of your image is
used in a composite image, colour balance altered, etc.

I haven't used any of this myself - don't have any images worth stealing !
