I took delivery via Royal Mail of my recently purchased E-400. One week to
deliver. Well done, mail people.
The battery charger works fine -- with my cord. Will save the Brit cord
for my next trip to Mother England.
The body looks completely new and unused. It is in every respect identical
to my E-410 except that the button for LV on the 410 is a "Fn" button on
the 400 -- a useful thing since it can be selected in the menu to provide
either aperture stopdown/preview or custom WB capability. On the 410,
custom WB is in the menus. I don't think there is a provision for DOF
preview for the 410.
After a couple dozen test shots, shooting for highlights will be necessary,
as expected. ISO 800 looks much cleaner than expected, even shooting with
noise reduction off (though I don't recall whether this is long-exposure
noise reduction or the regular kind). Seems cleaner than the Panny sensor
in the 410, but that could be wish fulfillment.
RAW files take a LONG time to write to the Kingston card that came with it.
More of a curiosity to me than a hindrance. I'll have to try a faster
card when I get a round tuit and otherwise compare with the 410 for speed.
Unpleasant surprise came when I tried to review ORF files in Fast Stone.
E-400 raw files are apparently indecipherable to FS. However, Bridge
handled them well and I have come to terms with Bridge and actually like it
rather well now. Pleasant surprise follows unpleasant at the hands of
Necessity.
