So, Ken, you wanted to know what I thought of the new Bon Jovi album.
I like it a lot. Musically, it sound similar to what they've done in the
past several years. But the melodies are catchy, the vocals are clean, and
Sambora does get a chance to shine here and there.
Sadly, the mastering has fallen into the "everything louder than everything
else" school, but I'll have to give it a listen on the monitors at home. I
have some sweet little Sennheiser open-air headphones at my desk, which are
very clear and articulate, but heavy bass modulates the highs, and the kick
is definitely compressed a lot here.
But all in all, not regretting the decision. I have every Bon Jovi album
so far, and this is one I'll listen to on a regular basis.
Doesn't stop me from wanting to punch the mastering engineer in the face,
though.
