Actually, a bobtail rig refers to a truck with it's own cargo area and
no trailer. A tractor has a fifth wheel and pulls a semi-trailer. And
then to add to the confusion, there is the "West Coast Rig", which
refers to a truck with a cargo area that pulls a full trailer behind it.
