It is a long way removed in time, too. The 310 was a post WW2 design, and
quite successful. It was not exactly underpowered, but not a ball of fire.
Unlike the predecessor, the "bamboo Bomber", it had a sea level single rate
of climb of something more than -50 fpm. The 340, on the other hand, was an
early sixties design, and may well have been the first pressurized light
piston twin. It was and remains a fun time for the pilot, and comfortable
for all in relatively short flights. A good step in evolution, but one that
looks to be filled by light jets and turboprop singles in the future. (watch
for what happens to the post-bankruptcy Beechcraft. They are rumored to be
looking at alternative powerplants for current models, a diesel could be
coming, and big redesigns, perhaps even a single engine King Air.)

Hi Bob,

I ran the N-number to get the company name, and now understand the tail art.
That 340 looks like a very nice airplane for its work assignment. It is a
long way removed from the first 310 that I saw, affectionally known in the
USAF as the "Blue Canoe".
