Yes, Arbutus menziesii. aka madrona. No arborist had anything to do with
its "modification" rather a hack with a chainsaw removed some of the
most photogenic limbs for out own protection. rolleyes gif: The madrona
and red alder forests around here aren't climax forest. That would be
doug fir mostly and a bit of oak savanna. The doug fir was originally
cut for the lime kilns and for steamers with some going to lumber.
