You'd better hope that it is batteries or electrical contacts or
something else equally simple. There are no more replacement circuit
boards available for OM-4s.
Jez's comment that you must use silver oxide batteries is very
important. The OM-4T has better battery life than the OM-4 but neither
camera has an off switch and is always idling at low power while
batteries are installed. If you use alkaline batteries the voltage will
quickly fall below the minimum required to operate the camera. In fact,
even if you're using silver oxide batteries if they have been installed
since the summer you may have depleted them already. If you are going
to leave the camera unused for any long period of time it is best to
remove the batteries. In the meantime go find some silver oxide
batteries. We will all hope very fervently that your camera will soon
be working again.
If the camera failed when you tried to take a shot and the mirror was
released and is stuck in the up position that is another indicator that
the problem is low batteries. That behavior is by design. The mirror
is up but the shutter has not fired and that frame of film has not been
wasted.
