Where did the camels come from? Some entrepreneur with an eye to the main
chance, perhaps?
I have actually only ever bombed horses, and that was a gross error. My
target, on the snowy uplands of Nevada, was a trio of vehicles (APCs). My
navigator (I was in a Tornado, 500knots at around 200ft) was quite proficiently
tracking the target with his radar when I saw a formation of vehicles a bit to
one side. I took control of the weapon-aiming system (pilot's preorogative),
changed direction and completed the attack, only to see one of the "vehicles"
move. It had been 3 horses in the snow in a similar formation to the target.
I regretted the weapon delivery immediately but there was nothing that I could
do about it. A rather pretty member of the squadron did not speak to me for a
few days after that . . .
