However, I have also heard that the jpgs are good enough not to worry
about
RAW; and that is what I do with my X10.

From what I can tell the in cam (X-pro-1 and presumably theXE-1) jpeg
engine minimizes the artefacts from the demosaicing algorithm, with SP
the next best followed by ACR. I have seen a dozen examples of the
"watercolor effect."

This is at 100% mind you and my not be seen in a large print even but
it seems to occur even at on
much smaller % view for large web images if the situation is just so.
Seems to be most noticable in foliage and and some landscapes with off
white details--have seen it in
cream colored builidings that looked like they had some pastel
coloring. It wasn't unpleasant but it wasn't accurate.
As I understand it the distance between blue patches and red patches
are increased in xtrans compared to Bayer array and thus less precision
during reconstitution. There are more green patches but they are not
uniform so we have no significant benefit in precision of green
restoration compared to bayer filter at least at low ISO's when noise
is low. Fuji can't use nearest color patches during interpolation as it
would lead to artefacts and must resort to more distance
ones-----consequence is less IQ at base ISO but higher number of green
sampling that can lead to better noise detection and removal at higher
ISO's.
Not sure how micro color accuaracy effects good colors perceived in an
image. Likely not so much as that is
more a f(excellent color profiles) than microcolor accuracy.
Still the problem speaks for itself. DXO denied working on this
"niche" product, but the engineers at the DXO
booth at the Hunt show leaked they had both Xpro-1 and XE-1 and are
working hard on a better converter.
If I hadn't just focused in the poor light with the OM-D 10 sec prior
to trying the XE-1 perhaps I'd have thought better of its AF
performance. The macro lens did hunt quite a bit though. The wild
card may be the nl range zoom from Fuji--perhaps it will be super. All
this should be taken with a grain of salt as I am an endocrinologist
and not an engineer.
Well my cousin is an engineer does that count, Mike
