Thanks, Wayne, and also thanks to others who commented.
It would be easier to make better compositions if I picked the lowering stems
off the plants, but we actually don't have the luxury of having lots of
flowers.
So I prefer to make the best of natural placement and lighting.
Now, since taking the photos, we have had some very windy and dry
weather which has largely destroyed the bulb flowers. Quince is made of
sterner stuff though.
The little shrub from which I made a much enlarged photo last year, with
blue/violet flowers, is producing, at last count, at least 100 flower stems. A
pretty happy result from one successful cutting I managed to get to grow
roots.
