I nerd bug that bit this list lately finally got me...:)
My father had a slide rule, but I never needed to learn, because by the time I
was in school, calculators were widely available.
I nostalgically searched for the Bulgarian brand Elka, that was very popular
and found an interesting statement: "Bulgaria was once one of the top 10
consumer electronics manufacturers in the world". Hmmm...I didn't know that,
but I also didnt know that the Bulgarians invented yogurt either...:)
I also was surprized to learn that HP still makes calculators. I fondly
remember these days in the early ninetieswhen I came to the US and started
college. There was this salesman...He was selling HP's. I saw his
demonstration several times and every time I saw it, I drooled like a mad dog.
Part of the demonstration was throwing the unit at the wall from the opposite
end of the room. I just didn't have the money, so I eventually settled on a
used TI graphics calculator. I still want one.
Best
Boris
