I would not worry about painting the darkroom 18% gray. The more light you
can get in there without affecting the film, the better. My darkroom is
white but I have no light leaks to reflect on anything. The 18% gray is
important when you scan the film and adjust colors on the computer so my
walls in my Lightroom are 18% gray - mixed myself to match a Gretag Macbeth
color chart. ;-)
