Buddleja davidii are very hardy and will easily take a late summer 
prune. I have one that was in the way of some tractor work we were doing 
so I cut it to the ground and now it's back up to 3m/10'. Since it 
doesn't die back in our mild winters it is considered an invasive weed 
by some. (including the State of WA and OR) However here locally it 
isn't a problem.
