In the face of adversity (stuck with an old-generation 12MP sensor) the
Olympus Engineers performed a miracle in extracting every last pixel of
detail form this sensor, and really doing the Zuiko Digital lenses
justice.
It's funny how, looking at samples from a Nikon D3X and the new Zeiss
Distagon 15mm f/2.8, the E-5 and the 7-14 resolves *no less detail* in
the corners (even wide open, resolves down to almost-moire-inducing
single-pixel-level). Not to mention the much more even illumination,
etc. compared to the Zeiss lens.
People forget what an incredible accomplishment this is, and I respect
the Olympus engineers (software and optical) for it. They took very
limited resources, and performed magic with it.
The spirit of Maitani lives!
