I see. I just looked at the scanty printed manual. The manual I was using, I
downloaded from the web, and is the same as
the one on the CD. I see you can buy the printed manual for $10.
I guess it's a recent thing for Oly, as the E-PL1 came with a full, printed
manual.

I'm not sure I would trust you on the rest, but the manual rule will be
implemented when I'm in charge. :-)
Canon has started the same thing, at least on compacts. The A650 and G11 came
with full printed manuals. The S100 with a
quickie, getting started manual and a real one on CD. Unlike Oly, though, they
don't offer a printed one for sale. Sigh.
