OK, here's it: A few weeks ago, I bit on the Panasonic GF-3/14mm deal from
Amazon. At that price why not. So I have tried MF on it, and wile stretched
out on the sofa focusing on the TV, it's not too bad, although frustratingly
slow. It's nice that when you turn the focus ring it automatically magnifies
the image, but still it takes TIME. With that, the decisive moment becomes
the decisive hour. That's my problem.

Not particularly difficult for me. I set the fn button to switch in and out
of MF. The button next to it on the E-PL1 is
the magnifying glass. One push of each button, and I'm in magnified MF mode.
I think the choices are 5, 7 and 10x; five
is plenty for me.
Remember, I have excellent visual acuity, and can peer over my glasses at
the screen in sharp focus about 8-10" from my
face. so it may be more troublesome for others.
Just as well, as the AF tends to ignore small, close things in favor of
distant background, even with only the central
AF 'point'/box selected and centered on the closer subject. Much as I've
found with compact cameras using CDAF.
With any luck, the newer AF on the OM-D, and 35 AF points vs. 11 will work
better, and I'll find less need for MF with
the AF lenses.
