I tried mine before I replied. It gives off an audible click when it locks
into place. If yours doesn't, I would assume something inside the 1.4 is
wrong.....bent, loose, spring. 2X should be identical.....look at both while
fiddling everything. Good luck.

Yes, thanks Don. If I do all that, then rotate the camera, lens and
teleconverter come apart. This does not happen with the 2x.
All very weird, and all the fiddling and staring at it hasn't helped!
