It's clear to me, as others have long known, that you worked magic with your
Leicas, day after day, for many years. To
those you have just posted, I have to add a favorite from browsing, El
Caballero.
<http://www.pbase.com/tinamanley/image/142835817> The salacious look from the
girl/woman at the handsome cowboy, while
everyone else is interested in something else, is just priceless.
But I am puzzled by the scans. First Photo is much like Faviana and Reymundo
before reprocessing, but Keli and Molina
seem much less affected. Quetzales in somewhere in between. Helados has the
same issues, but they happen to work in its
favor, for me.
That would seem to lead to the conclusion that the problem is bright, direct
sun. And yet, the exposures seem correct,
and there are innumerable KRs in bright, tropical sun in National Geographic
alone, let along all the other places, that
don't suffer the same odd colors, contrast, etc.
The couple of places where these were taken are both below 1,000 feet, so
that's shouldn't be a part of the problem. I
keep going back to my few KRs taken in that sort of light. This is a much
younger me, v. similar light, although higher
latitude. The brightness range is such that KR64 couldn't quite get both
highlights and shadows, but what's in between
is quite natural looking in color and contrast.

For good or ill, my shots of Costa Rica are not KR. Maybe I have some from
Mexico ...
There really has to be a way to get clean, natural looking scans of your
wonderful work. I'd like to help, if I can.
Would it be possible to send me one of the SilverFast HDR/Raw, whatever they
are called, image files? Chuck found that
they are the same thing as VueScan Raw files, which I know something about
processing further. Maybe I could find a
clearly explainable way to process them to more pleasing results in a simple,
repeatable way.
BTW, I really like what the scanning has done to Work Break.

It is very much similar to a a particular genre of painting, and better than a
lot of it I've seen, maybe mostly
Hispanic/Latino, originating in SoCal? Possibly contemporary at the time you
took the photo.
