These wind-powered waterpumps are called windmills in NZ too.
Almost never seen in use any more. They have been replaced by electricity-
power or gravity feed.
On my father's farm when I was young, the wind was unreliable in hot dry
weather so we used an "Iron Horse" or a "Briggs & Stratton" petrol
"windmill".
