Thank you for the comments. I took a monopod (Promaster 1100) with me
on these last two trips. It's better than being totally hand-held, but no
substitute for a full-blown tripod. I have an Ambico V-0552 that is fairly
light which I will try on the next trip. I would like to find a suitable
bag for it so that I can include the L-bracket that I made from a broken
flash bracket. I do not care at all for those three-axis tripod heads.
