Why on earth has tornado-
and hurricane-country USA never bothered to invent hurricane-proof
houses? You can't tell me it's not possible. It's easy to build an
aircraft that can stably *fly* 200 miles per hour (nay, 2000
miles per hour!) so why can't people build dwellings that
simply have to remain stationary (and not be destroyed)
by a 100 - 200 mph wind?
Easy answer: For most people, the added costs would not pay off. Unlike
hurricanes, which demolish entire towns or states, a tornado is a different
animal, that picks and chooses its meals.
as we all know, they prefer a fine dinner of trailer house. Remember, they
are called MOBILE homes. Get a dictionary, look up mobile. They are easy
prey. I lived in a neighborhood hit by a tornado, and the only destruction I
faces was a blown-down fence, while other houses lost roofs, and everyone
else lost mature trees. It is a bad gamble I a very price conscious culture.
Remember, if wal-mart made houses, we would all live in one.
