In Christchurch, New Zealand, the Bishop and congregation representatives
have decided that the Cathedral in the centre of the city will be
deconstructed down to a wall height of 2 - 3 metres, in an endeavour to save
as many valuable parts as possible.
This great building of un-reinforced masonry is not only very badly damaged
already but in every one of the aftershocks is slowly rocking itself to bits.
It is
now a very dangerous place due to the potential for rockfall.
On facebook two frequent contributors have put together this set of pre-
earthquake images in remembrance of this building which dates from the
founders of the city (see the ship mosaic).
